Safety and Cost Involved in Using SAF
Combining Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Fossil jet fuel until about 50% is possible, and all tests checking the quality on par with ordinary jet fuel. Once the combining is complete, SAF will carry the same characteristics similar to that of fossil jet fuel. The result is renamed and certification is done again as Jet A or Jet A-1. The infrastructure for fuel does not change as the handling of SAF is still the same as ordinary jet fuel.
At present, the cost of SAF is higher than that of Fossil jet fuel. That comes down to the blending of the present stock of sustainable raw materials and the consistent growth of newer manufacturing technologies.
